Corrosion Protection Units for Steel in Concrete
Reinforced steel structures such as bridges and multi-storey carparks are subject to the risk of insidious corrosion from the penetration of chlorides (e.g. de-icing salt). An increase in volume from the corroding steel reinforcement leads to the formation of dangerous cracks, compromising the stability of the structure enormously and resulting in expensive repair work.
As an alternative to conventional methods of concrete repair, the cathodic protection of steel in concrete (CPSC) can usually extend the lifetime of a structure by decades.
Implementing CPSC achieves comprehensive protection against corrosion.
Advantages of a CPSC system:
- large quantities of contaminated concrete do not have to be removed and replaced
- time spent on repair work is reduced
- preventive protection minimises future repair work
- minimal disruption of normal operation
